‘typisch deutsch?’ at the Museum of Applied Arts in Cologne, Germany

Rolf Sachs unveils typisch deutsch?, a major solo exhibition at the MAKK Cologne

Exhibition dates: 14 January – 20 April 2014

With sensitivity, wit and emotion, Sachs interprets a selection of ‘typical German’ terms such as industriousness (Fleiß), cleanliness (Reinlichkeit), melancholy (Schwermut) and conviviality (Geselligkeit) and manifests these into a collection of intriguing sculptural and installation works that bridge the gap between art and design. For several years now, Sachs has been increasingly analysing his own cultural and linguistic origins and invites viewers to contemplate German cultural idiosyncrasies and stereotypes from a completely new perspective and determine what they consider to be typisch deutsch?.
