Gunter Sachs Memorial
Candle light installation on Lake St. Moritz
To commemorate Gunter Sachs’s passing, Sachs created a large scale candle installation on the frozen Lake St Moritz, inspired by his father’s passion for astrology. Over 3500 candles were used to form Gunter’s star sign, the Scorpio, in a poetic and personal installation which could be seen from the memorial ceremony venue on the plateau above.
As the sun disappeared behind the mountains, the memorial guests were greeted by a vision of delicately flickering candles, surrounded by the stunning Engadin mountain landscape, during the ‘blue hour’ of ethereal twilight. The work was captured from a helicopter, as well as from points around the lake, in the town and on the mountain, documenting a visual experience in commemoration of Gunter Sachs.
