The trace, the imprint — a formal language that has existed in his furniture since the early 2000s — has recently taken a renewed importance in Sachs’ work. Dipping his hand, face and feet in paint, and leaving a trace on paper, canvas or gesso, is all part of Sachs wanting to get to the bottom of what is it that makes us human.
This work was shown alongside some iconic pieces at the Vieux Chalet in Gstaad (Switzerland) in collaboration with Hauser & Wirth. The exhibition featured sculptures, portraiture and a large-scale site-specific installation on the exterior.
