Set design for Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden
The stage design for the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden production of Faust evokes an atmosphere of minimalism, scarcity and symbolism, in direct contrast to traditional stage dressing. Here, decoration is shunned in favour of a bold approach, where light plays a vital role, becoming a character in itself; illuminating the conceptual designs scattered across the stage, from neon lights to an imposing chair made of folds of muted felt, representing Faust’s descent in to the devil’s clutches. Sachs employs his own conceptual aesthetic to create a design of power and emotional resonance.
