Inaugurated near Munich in 1995, the Switch Haus was conceived as an innovative, eco-conscious and affordable housing project. Aimed at minimising environmental impact, the design emphasised reduced energy consumption through solar power and rainwater collection. The project focused on minimising air and water pollution, as well as limiting heat and water usage, all while using sustainable materials with care for future generations and the surrounding landscape.
Rolf Sachs was invited to design one of the Switch Haus interiors. He developed a luminous, open plan space where each room held equal value, featuring bespoke, minimalist furniture. His concept allowed for adaptability and freedom, enabling the interior and furnishings to respond to the users’ needs.
