H 73 × W 348 × D 98.5 cm
edition of 12
This table, made from a giant “Ausfahrt” (exit) sign from a German motorway, illustrates an affection for the everyday object; the often overlooked and under-appreciated designs and archetypes we encounter in our daily lives.
This piece was created for the typisch deutsch? (typical German?) solo exhibition at the MAKK in Cologne, where Sachs aims to reappraise cultural labels, to question stereotypes and open a discourse on German identity in the twenty-first century. Viewers are asked to contemplate German archetypes and clichés from a different perspective, questioning the very essence of what it means to be typisch deutsch.
